The socio-political conflict in the Northwest and Southwest regions that started in 2016 has caused large-scale damage, destabilized communities and cause many family to become internally displaced while other were being hosted in other communities others where in hard to reach shanty camp in the forest. The COVID-19 pandemic, which broke out in Cameroon in March 2020, affects the whole country, increasing the number of people in need of assistance and exacerbating the needs of IDPs already affected by humanitarian crisis. Prior the COVIC-19 outbreak in Cameroon, Living Green Cameroon (LGC) has been working in the IDP camps providing support to GBV survivors.
Since the COVID-19 outbreak in Cameroon, the Living Green Cameroon has adapted its existing programs to the new reality by factoring the COVIC-19 pandemic into all its programs and collecting data to share with other organization working in this sector. Living Green Cameroon being one of the frontline youth organizations working with IDPs in an experience based approach Living Green Cameroon immediately lunch the project titled Providing Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and COVID-19 prevention and protection services to Internally Displaced Persons (IDP), the project focused on promotion of preventative measures within the IDP camps, wearing of face mask, social distancing and providing handwashing stations using running water with soap.
